Every school system has its goals and promises made to its school community and stakeholders. These goals are made public through Local Control Accountability Plans, mission statements and MOUs. As expected, these goals are always centered around student academic achievement and spearheaded by various teams and leaders. EmpowerED School Business (ESB) was created to design and build systems that connect the dots, between the goals and objectives your organization is trying to accomplish, and the behind the scenes operations that must be in place to support and win on these goals.

What we find too often is that schools' organizational goals and priorities are shifting rapidly in these post-pandemic times; and unfortunately, on the operational side our systems, processes, and procedures are not getting the same level of attention, so it creates disconnect and inefficiency.

Who Is EmpowerED School Business?

EmpowerED School Business (ESB). was founded in 2023 by Mallory Arevalos, MBA.  For the last 15 years, Mallory has been an intrapreneur working from within California public schools, both charter schools and traditional school districts,  as the Director of Fiscal Services.  

 

In 2023 she started ESB as a way to help other educational agencies improve their operations and create strong, dynamic schools by learning from her mentorship and guidance.  Mallory's unique expertise is intimately understanding both School Finance and Budgets, and also school operations. She is keenly aware that every operation within a school ultimately impacts the budget and fiscal office. As the developer and gatekeeper of annual operating budgets ranging $50M-$150M, she had to build or rebuild various operations to make the data used for budget development more accurate, efficient, transparent, and audit-proof.

 

A few highlights of Mallory's professional accomplishments,  thus far:

  • authored an operations manual to standardize procedures across a network of charter schools.

  • implemented and transitioned to new financial softwares

  • designed and implemented fiscal department personnel restructures 

  • implemented online time and attendance systems

  • implemented document management software to improve Accounts Payable operations

  • created budget development training for different levels of employees and purposes

  • instituted monthly professional development meetings for key staff

  • developed and maintained YouTube channel for district(s) as a library resource for staff to access as needed

  • produced countless training resources for everything from food service point of sale, processing income verification forms, attendance accounting procedures, implementing online timecards, and more.

 

EmpowerED School Business, LLC operations and clients are individually managed by Mallory Arevalos, MBA.

When Mallory is not working to improve school business, she can be found at the baseball fields or camp grounds with her husband and three children.
